During May the woods of Calder Vale, surrounding the church, are filled with the glorious sight and scent of bluebells. Visitors travel from far and wide to enjoy local nature at its best.

As has become traditional, the good folk of Calder Vale open the Village Hall from 1pm to 5pm on all the Sundays in May, when they serve the most wonderful home-produced food – homemade sandwiches, puddings and cakes . These are called the “Bluebell Teas”. Proceeds are for the benefit of village organisations.

On the Saturdays and Bank Holiday Mondays in May, similar wonderful refreshments are served in St John’s Church; proceeds this time for church funds.
